On Thursday and Friday of last week we addressed the issue of bullying through the variety of texts we read. In the Time for Kids article, "Bullying: It's Against the Law" we heard two different opinions on how to improve bullying in schools. One opinion suggested that we need more programs and funding to raise awareness of what bullying is, what it looks like in its different forms and how to stop or prevent it. The other opinion suggested that we all just need take ownership for our own words and actions, therefore setting an example and being a role model for all those around us. This will then have a ripple effect and others will want to start doing good and being respectful as well. Which side do you agree with? Think outside of Briarcliff and even Kansas City. We discussed this being a nation-wide issue. If we are going to solve this problem on a national level, how should we approach it? Maybe you have an idea of your own and don't agree with either opinion. If so, share it. How would you solve this problem?

I will make sure that everyone in Briarcliff Elementary dosen't bully anyone else.Bullying is a big world issue in our world mostly everyone in our world gets bullied.But now theres a law to make sure that bullying stops.I want my school and the world has no bullies and everyone can live a good bully free life.I'm not a bully but I will make sure there isn't any.Ian
I think that we should all be nice and respectful.We should all be able to just take our part in not bulleying.My mom says that we all have to be nice all the time or else we will get in trouble and have to apoligise.I also think that we need programs to prevent bulleying and learn how to stop it but i think that the programs should not have an entering fee.I want to make an after school program that teaches people to not bulley others and how to prevent them.I will work with bulleys like ms.Scanlon worked with me when i was having troubles we will make plans on how we will stop ourselves from being bullies.I want to make the world free of bullies but we will have to work really hard for that not to happen but it will be worth it.I have been a bulley and it doesnt make you feel good about yourself it makes you feel horible and i have apoligised for it and how i was acting and i under stand that it is never okay.
I do think that everybody has a part in bullying. I think that both ideas are good because we all do play a part in bullying and that it really all in the end depends on us. I also believe that we do need programs to get kids aware of bullying and how much it happends. I would take this in a different perspective. I would create my own program, K's Way To Think. I would like at least onr hour to disscuss bullies everyday. First we would confess. If you needed to share something that has been inside you. Then we would talk about the result of bullying and how it makes kids feel on the outside and on the inside too. My program will be powerful, with videos and speeches, to confessions, and to the hard truth. In at least a few years the bullying will go down or even stop but it all depends on you. Then I would go to bullying outside of school and discuss how to handle it. From being a bully vitum many times my program will make an impact on all students around the world. The most important thing I will do is tell the kids the result of being bullied. It makes you feel depressed. My program will make an impact.

I dont think that we need programs to stop bullying because if we stop bullying than people will look at what we do and do the same. Bullying is a big issue in several school or even states. Now there is a law in alot of states that bullying is not allowed. I'll make sure there is no bullying in school. I've been bullyied it wasn't a good thing.I am not a bully but i'll make sure there isn't any anywhere. So remember do not bully anywhere!!!!!!!!

I think that we shouldn't pay money constently to stop blying if it isn't working as people thought it would.I also don't think that setting a role modle will work either, because bulling still acures. I think I'd start a program where bulling could and would be stoped.It would heip kids with bulling by giving adviceto kids on what they should do.It would also stop bulling when it is seen.I think this program will do every thing they can to stop bulling. What we should do is if a bully is being mean to you tell a teacher. Or get an adult.Or be nice to the bully.It's good to live a bully free life. And it's not good to bully people.So be nice to people and don't be part of a world wide issue. Yusuf
Bullying is a world wide issue that needs to be stopped. but it is too big to be stopped in a week, month, year, or even 5 years.
I don't think that bullying can be stopped by extra education, and some kids cannot and won't take the responsiblility to stop. So I think that they should start a program called the HPBFKWNI.
It stands for Helping Prevent
Bullying For Kids Who Need It.
Some schools in major cities where crime and gunshots happen all the time. These kids might not know how to stop bullying, because these bad events have happened around them their whole life. So you start making the change even though kids in say Las Vegas can't model off you. But bullying can be stopped eventually.
Bullying is a realy big problem in schools.I think you need to be the change you want to see in the world.But, I would start a orginization called HPBIS.That stands for help prevent bullying in schools.Some of the things I would do are have classes to teach kid not to bully and give rewards to people who do not bully.Auggie.

We don't need fundings.We need to take actions.And the people who do it should need to get a call home. And if it hapens out side of school it depends of the actons. I think asking for money and programing is REICULUS.These teachers need to step up and teach these kids how to act.But it's also importiant to relize that it isn't just the teacher's fault it could be alot of things mabye they don't have people at home to tell them that it's rong or not to it. I believe that to get rid of bullies depends on the type of school. Here at Briarcliff, all we need is a smile and a forgiving attitude. At Briarcliff, the older kids (4th and 5th graders) should set an example for the younger kids. The older kids should know how to handle bullies themselves before they get to middle school. In Las Vegas, I believe they need more programs because all they've grown up with is gangsters and rough stuff. Teachers should address the prlblems of bullies with more action. They should have a five step process to get rid of bullies. I believe that it really depends on the place and how many bullies are at the school.

I think we should not raise money for bully awarness programs. I think we should be good citezens of the U.S.A. and not hurt others. Raising money will only let bullies know that people want them to stop. But they'll just keep bullying people because their bullys. We should use reverse ciclodgy and act like we don't care. (Gabriel Miller #16)...Bullying in school is like trying to put toothpaste back in it's bottle or what ever with a tooth pick you can't take your words back. and it is realy agenst the law of 70% of U.S and in scholastic storyworks it talked about a boy how is named Ethan Z. he only has 1 finger on each hand instead of five fingers. In Nobodys Pefect a girl named Mia she got bullyed at school and she tried to sit with the cool girls trieing to look cool. Back to the toothpick thing My teacher made us do that at the begining of the school year and we thout at first it was somthing to do but we where wrong well I that it was somthing to do but still it is not ok to bully at all calling people names calling them looser what is wrong you!!! I think that we don't need more money because then bully's are being forced out of bullying.However if we could do it without money then bully's are being helped out.That way when used-to-be-bully's see others being bullied then they could say its wrong.And if kids could just stand up to bullies then they could start a ripple effect and soon I think bullying would eventually just stop.If bullies could realize that it doesn't make them feel good,it makes them feel guilty.One day I hope that everyone will be kind to one-another and bullying will be a thin of the past.
Logan-I think we should take care of the bully issue ourselves and try and stop it. I think we can stoop bullying if we get a teacher and the principle.If you are being bullied just ignore the bullie and walk away.I think that we dont need more fund raising in order to stop bullie.We can stop bullying together im never going to be a bullie ever and I will convince a bully mot to ever again.I hope no one ever bullies and I hope that everyone gets along in middle school next year and stops bullying.

I think we should put the bullyies in the buddy room because all they do is pick on other kids and that gives them a lesson to not bully other kids.But if that does not work then the adult or teacher should call their parents.And we all need to be nice and respectfull to each others so we dont give the other person day hard.We need to make pograms about bulying because there is so much of bullying going on.lesly#12
If you see someone geting bullyed tell a grownup. you can also tell a parent. if you are on the playground tell them to stop. dont hang out with people that are mean. Xavier
